Numbers 3:1-4

This is the lineage of Aaron and Moses1 at the time when the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai. These are the names of the sons of Aaron:2 Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar; these are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to minister as priests. Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord3 when they offered unholy fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children. Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of their father Aaron.

1 It names “Aaron and Moses”, as they are brothers, and of the Levites, but Moses's children are not mentioned.
2 As is usually the case, no daughters or wives are mentioned.

3 The disobedience and judgement of Aaron's 1st 2 sons is reiterated.

Take-home: We are reminded that Aaron had 2 obedient sons who served God their whole life, and 2 disobedient sons who were punished by God. The descendants of the obedient sons will be prominent in the temple service.
